Concrete strengthening for building retrofit

Our cutting-edge carbon-fibre reinforcement (CFR) services proved to be the quickest and most cost-effective way of strengthening the floor slabs of this building to accommodate significantly heavier loads.

The carbon-fibre installation was completed in two phases as part of the conversion of this structure into a state-of-the-art laboratory for medical research purposes. It will, therefore, house specialist equipment and storage solutions which, together with constant foot traffic, require floors that can accommodate very high loads without cracking.

We completed the first phase in December 2024 and recently returned to the site to finalise the project, which can be described as fairly straightforward. This is considering our extensive experience working with this innovative material which, when left to an expert, provides savings in retrofit time and costs. A total of 3,655.5 linear meters of carbon-fibre was installed on this project alone.

With its high strength-to-weight ratio, our CFR is very strong while being significantly lighter than traditional strengthening materials, such as steel. This reduces additional dead loads on the structure.

It also does not corrode, making it a durable solution for long-term strengthening, while also reducing operating costs.
